I take a personalized, mind-body approach that addresses nutrition, stress, and other lifestyle habits. Taking a holistic approach that integrates physical, mental, and emotional dynamics allows us to go deeper and uncover the root causes of habits and patterns that no longer serve you. We can then work in partnership to find individualized solutions so you can have a healthier and more joyous life.
I have a Master's degree in Public Health and am a Certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I'm also an Emotional Freedom Techniques Practitioner and a Certified Lactation Educator.
After working in managerial roles in the public health field for many years, in 2013, I became a Certified Health Coach because I wanted to return to working more directly with clients rather than being a manager.
I also decided to shift my career in this direction because, after 28 years of working in the nonprofit health and social services sector, I was feeling burned out. Social change work can be both rewarding and very demanding. I was ready for a change of my own, especially one that would allow me to focus more on my own wellbeing. While I still work very hard in my own practice, I now focus more on self-care than I ever have.
It breaks my heart to know that so many of the caring people that are driven to help others, often neglect their own physical and emotional needs. Our modern, busy lifestyles with so many work and family demands make it difficult to prioritize ourselves. That’s why I made it part of my mission to offer services that support the wellbeing of nonprofit employees.
I’ve been working as an independent contractor for workplace wellness companies since 2017, shortly after leaving the nonprofit sector. Employees in for-profit companies with wellness programs receive lots of benefits. Yet, no one needs support with self-care more than caregivers. The difficult times we’re experiencing with the pandemic, systemic racism, political division, climate change, and other injustices have made it even more necessary to support those who are working on the frontlines of community work and social change movements.
While I was very passionate about the work I did in the nonprofit sector, much of which focused on developing and managing programs to support maternal and child health, breastfeeding, and attachment parenting, I’m just as passionate about what I do now.
I used to teach moms how to nourish and nurture their babies. Now I support women to nourish and nurture themselves. I find that the factors that cause women to struggle with emotional eating are often related to attachment trauma or in some way not receiving what we needed in our own childhoods. Food becomes the attachment. My own health transformation occurred when I broke up with sugar in 2013 after recognizing that I had yeast overgrowth due to a sugar addiction that started in my childhood. I've been eating clean (mostly real, whole foods and sugar-free) ever since.
My background as a Latina from an immigrant, working class family, my experience in a trauma-informed, strength-based, coaching program for moms and babies, and my experience in workplace wellness services informs my approach and fuels my passion to support the wellbeing of women and workers.
While part of my approach is about clarifying the confusing and often contradictory information about nutrition that’s out there, the deeper work I do with clients is related to supporting them to love and accept themselves more fully.
Eating clean will only stick by addressing the underlying stress and emotions that often trigger people to turn to comfort foods. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/Tapping) allows clients to shift toward a healthier relationship with food and with themselves.
I create a safe, supportive space that will allow you to be reflective about your goals and what’s been holding you back.
I will support you in eating more mindfully, releasing stress, prioritizing self-care, achieving more balance, and most importantly, loving and accepting yourself more fully.
